Connecting six hospital systems for clearer management reporting

A British mental-health hospital brought data from six separate systems into a shared warehouse, starting with financial reporting and extending the plan to care operations and HR.

The situation

The business need

The hospital used separate systems for marketing, finance, human resources and patient administration. Inconsistent records made it difficult to establish which figures were accurate or build a complete view of the organisation.

Management wanted analysis that could connect departmental operations with financial performance. The complexity lay in understanding the business meaning of data across different source databases.

The approach

How the team delivered

01

Define the reporting domains

UK consultants and Shinetech data-warehouse specialists worked with department representatives to divide requirements into marketing, finance, HR and care operations. Finance was further divided into four areas to identify the relevant sources.

02

Bring the data together

The team reorganised data from different database technologies into one warehouse and implemented synchronisation. Reporting requirements included departmental income and costs, ward-level finances, admissions, discharges, bed occupancy and workforce changes.

03

Release financial reporting first

Financial integration, analysis and reports were completed and released in the period described by the source. Work on the other domains was proceeding alongside it. The team also developed the hospital’s internal capability to support future requirements.

The result

What the engagement delivered

Financial reports released

The finance-related integration and reporting work was completed and released.

A connected reporting foundation

A shared warehouse provided a basis for analysing information across previously separate systems.

A route to further change

The client planned a new ERP interface connected to the warehouse after seeing limitations in the existing front ends.
